Frequently asked
questions
What are drug test cups?
Drug test cups are
cups with integrated drug test reagent components that has the
functions of both collecting urine and testing the collected sample
for detecting drugs of abuse.
What means splitting a test sample?
To split a test sample is to separate an originally
collected urine sample into two or more containers.
The sample split
must be done before it contacts a test component or before it is contaminated.
Why
split sample function is important to a drug test
cup?
When urine is tested
in a non-split test cup or by dipping in a drug test card, the urine sample
is considered contaminated, not suited for re-testing or
confirmation testing. A second sample may be collected if
retesting is required. This is time consuming, agitating to
the sample donor, and
costly to the employer.
The
Keyless! SplitSample CupLab device produces an instantly
drug test result minutes after urine is collected and
provides a lab ready sample in the sample cup for
confirmation testing.
The Department of
Transportation (DOT) of the US government requires all urine
specimen collected for drug testing be split into two
containers. If one of the split specimen is tested positive,
the other specimen should be sent to another laboratory for
confirmation testing. Split specimen testing is also
recommended for all non-DOT drug testing.
How is split sample test cup method compared with the test
card method?
Currently rapid urine drug screen tests are done with a
collection cup and test card method or a urine test cup
method.
In the
test card method, urine is first collected in a ordinary
urine specimen cup. The collected specimen is then split
into smaller samples and labeled for screening and
confirmation testing. A test card, usually a dip card
consisting several test strips, is dipped in the screen test
sample to get a rapid drug test result. The confirmation
sample is treated differently depending on the screen test
result. If the screen test result is presumptive negative,
all the samples are usually dumped. If a presumptive
positive result is reported, the confirmation test sample is
sealed and sent for lab analysis. In most drug screen
testsituations, only a small number of samples test
positive; therefore, the pre-test sample split wastes much
materials and labor. The test procedure certainly increases
operator exposure to urine specimen.
The
split sample test cup method is much simpler. In this
method, urine is directly collected in the test cup and
tested in the same container. Only a small portion of the
collected urine is split and reacts with the test component.
If the test result is presumptive negative, the device is
dumped. If the test result is presumptive positive, the
device is sealed and sent for lab analysis.

Do
all drug test cups consist of split sample function?
Most current drug test cups are without such
function. Prior to CupLab, the
only split sample test cup employs a plastic key
used for the test operator to use to manipulate the
device, so as to split the sample into two chambers.
What is a Keyless SplitSample drug test cup?
Our SplitSample
drug test cup has a built in function that
automatically splits the collected urine sample into two separated
chambers. Unlike other test cups that split specimen by a mechanical
valve, urine flows irreversibly from the main cup reservoir into a
small test chamber, where it reacts with the test reagents. Through
out the test, urine in the main cup reservoir remains intact. Not only the cup
does not come with a key, the operator needs not have to do anything
before a test result is generated. All the test operator does
is to peel the label that covers the result window and view the test
result.
What are the working principles of the Keyless SplitSample test
cup?
The split sample function is accomplished by a self sealing
membrane technology. When urine is collected, it flows from the main reservoir into
the test chamber by nature's force - gravity. The self sealing membrane that allows air to
escape the chamber seals off, therefore stops urine flow between the
cup reservoir and the test chamber. The split sample of the test chamber contacts a lateral
flow test component and produces a test result. The urine sample of
the main reservoir remains intact.
What is the procedure to
run a drug test with a CupLab drug test
cup?
1. obtain a
CupLab test cup
device. 2. Directly collect urine in the cup. 3. Read the
thermometer strip and the adulterant test strip to validate
the urine sample. 4. Read the easy to read drug test
results. see also quick
instruction card.
The instrument free test can be done in as little as a
couple of minutes!
If the test reports positive results for any drugs of
abuse, the uncontaminated urine sample can be further split
into smaller samples. The cup secured with the leak proof
lid can be kept as evidence or shipped to a laboratory for
re-test.
How
is the CupLab drug test procedure better than those
using other test cups?
Other drug test cup devices include two
types, test cups without split sample function and
cups with split sample function. For test cups
without split sample function, if required, all test samples must
be split before the test begins. With a key operation split sample test
cup, the operator must manipulate the cup with the
key to split the test sample before starting the
test.
All no
split sample test cups have absorptive strips connect test
reagents and the cup chamber. Urine flows both ways between
the test reagents and the specimen pool. If a test result
needs to be confirmed as required by certain regulations, a
different urine specimen must be collected.
Only CupLab does three things together - collecting,
splitting , and testing.
Only CuplLab automatically splits the urine sample
while the sample is collected. No pre-test sample
split is required. It saves test materials and
reduces operator exposure to urine specimens. The CupLab drug test procedure
is simpler, faster, and more error proof.
Does the test cup tell if the urine is adulterated?
Yes, the cup is
optionally equipped with adulterant test
components. Test result of the urine validity is automatically done
and is determined the same time when the drug test result is viewed.
Is the test
result guaranteed correct?
No. The drug test is an immunological reaction procedure, which is very accurate and specific. However, certain components
in urine may affect the outcome of the test. No immunological test
results is 100% accurate. A presumed positive test result by CupLab
should be confirmed with another test method, such as GC/MS
analysis.
How
can I buy CupLab test cups?
You can ask your drug test distributor or directly
contact Acro Biotech to find a distributor in your
area.
